Course Certificate

The ability to configure a course to provide the students with an end-of-course certificate has been added to Edstep.

Currently, there are two modes to provide the student with a course certificate:

  • Automatically, when the course is passed, based on requirements set by the instructor
  • Manually, by the instructor on a student-by-student basis

Over time, we’ll add more functionality to the course certificate feature. For example, in the future it will be possible to provide your own certificate design and customise the certificate text.

The end-of-course experience, including the obtaining of a certificate, is a hugely important part of the overall learning experience. Consequently, with the majority of the current “Summer 2020” features in place for Edstep, we will be focusing on improving and polishing the overall learner journey all the way from the learner seeing a course in their social media feed, signing up for the course, taking the course and getting feedback with regards to how they are doing, finishing the course and getting a certificate to show that they have passed the course to finally recommending the course to their peers and friends.

Millionaire Game Improvements

Learning should also be fun. The Millionaire Game, based on the well-known show “Who wants to be a millionaire?” can provide learners with a well-earned break and a bit of fun in between the other, more serious, activities in their courses.

Both Edstep and our gamification-based learning tool Gamilab have had the ability to include the Millionaire Game as part of their courses and games for quite some time now. However, in Edstep there were some problems with how the game ended inside of the Edstep course player together with a bug affecting how points obtained in the Millionaire Game were reported back to Edstep. These issues have now been fixed and we are looking forward to seeing how our community of course creators and designers incorporate the Millionaire Game into their courses and games, respectively.
